Cole grew up just 43 miles from U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Pekin, Ill. He is the closest thing the PrairieThunder has had to a hometown boy in the franchise’s four year history. He is a 2008 graduate of Nichols College in Dudley, Mass. where he earned a degree in business management. He is only a few hours shy of a master’s degree.
He was a four-year letterman in ice hockey at Nichols College where he was a first-team all-ECAC selection as a senior. He was the top offensive defenseman during his senior year when he scored 30 points on 5 goals and 25 assists to finish ninth in the nation among defensemen. During his four-year career at Nichols College, he scored 97 points in 110 games (20 goals, 77 assists) and helped the team to a 76-29-5 record and one ECAC Northwest Conference championship. The 77 assists were two shy of the school’s all-time career record.
Cole was named the Male Athlete of the Year at Nichols College during his junior and senior seasons. He also earned the Ice Breaker Most Valuable award in college and was the MVP of the St. Mike’s Holiday Tournament.
Cole began his professional career during the 2008-09 season with the Wichita Thunder of the CHL. He played six games and scored his first and only professional goal, which he describes as his “fondest hockey memory.”
Cole is also very proficient on the golf course where he carries a 2 handicap.
