BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Bobby Bolt’s goal as the sixth shooter in sudden death handed the Bloomington PrairieThunder a 2-1 loss against the Muskegon Lumberjacks before 2,749 people Friday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in International Hockey League action.
The shootout setback dropped the PrairieThunder’s record to 30-29-4-6, but earned it one point to raise its season total to 70. Bloomington holds a five-point lead over Flint for the fourth and final spot in the postseason playoffs.
Flint, which has a 29-31-3-4 record (65 points), invades U.S. Cellular Coliseum at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
Muskegon grabbed a 1-0 lead midway through the second period on Michel Beausoleil’s power play goal off a Billy Collins’ assist. Bloomington tied the game with 7:48 remaining in regulation on Brett Holmberg’s goal with assists to Robin Gomez and Matt Woodard.
Andrew Martin suffered the loss in net for the PrairieThunder despite stopping 28 of 28 shots. Matt Lundin was the winning goal with 40 saves on 41 shots. Muskegon was 1 for 3 on power plays, while Bloomington was shut out on six attempts.
The PrarieThunder received goals from Bill Bagron and Jason Lepine in the shootout, while Muskegon’s scores came from Bolt and Beausoleil.
